Quite possibly the best place to see a beautiful sunrise over The Great Smoky Mountains is at the Newfound Gap Parking Area. This scenic overlook on Rt 441 actually sits exactly on the Tennessee-North Carolina border; if you are in the right spot you can see the Sun rise over The Great Smoky Mountains while in two states at once! This scenic overlook offers the best view of the sunrise in The Smokies as it faces almost directly East, and offers a clear, unobstructed view.
